Sci-fi blog io9 has this wonderful article about the movie Avatar and how it relates to Dances With Wolves, The Last Samurai and other movies where a white guy leaves his own oppressive people to join the nobel savage, and not only be perfectly integrated, but become their best leader ever. I’m very interested how science fiction explores cultural themes, and how it betrays we explore those themes. I’m trying to subvert this in Starslip at every turn.
