Awesome new comic. It highlights one of the things that I'll miss most when Starslip finally concludes: the art. Ever since the art reboot, the quality of the art has been great, and Kris' starship design is extremely cool.
One continuity question: if the past of the Paradigm's crew has been altered, does that mean that the whole episode with the Anthelerix never happened? As a result, has the Consortium been returned to its previous location in the galaxy?
I bet it's going to turn out that Future Vanderbeam altered the past so that Vanderbeam finds out what's on this derelict years earlier than he otherwise would have.
Also, this is the Watchtower from Justice League Unlimited
Is this a Continuum ring ship? Will Nosh be making a cameo from Drive? Cause I would love to see VanderBeam try to obnoxious Nosh (yes, "obnoxious" is a verb).
It would be like the immovable object and the irresistible force
It's not always easy to get a sense of perspective in space, but yeah, compared to the Paradigm, that thing looks HUGE! Now, of course, I'm dying to find out more about it.
When I learned one thing from derelict ships that have been missing for more than a few weeks: shoot first, ask questions later. In fact, keep shooting, and never ask questions
An Archentron is a primitive gut that becomes an animals digestive tract, in blastulases. The inium ending means a place.
So Archenium Wind means something like, Baby Fart.
If there is one thing sci-fi taught me, it is that old abandoned spacefaring artefacts are awesome, fun, and almost never totally crazy dangerous at all!
Part hibernation ship, eh? I wonder which classic character from the Straubaverse is on board. My money's on Huntyr Chase — he's finally as cool as he always thought he was. heyooo
So … how does Jinx get his head in that helmet? I appreciate that it's got bumps for his eyes to socket into, but how does he get his eyes past the lip? Are his eyes squishy?
Hmmmm…. had spotted it but had not made that connection Bobulus…… good memory association even if wrong….. always good to see a little subtle mystery in a strip…. keeps you on edge for the next…..
Wait, a rust eating non dangerous(or at least non people eating) organism? As they are rust-checkers now, this discovery would mean no more rust on spaceships for ever, this could give them a huge promotion, possibly even to their previous status!
PS: if their whole ship starslipped with them, why isn't it still a museum(or was someone messing with the past)?
THIS IS EXCIIITIIIIIIIINGGG
<– Discount Dance Supply ad … someone's getting their money's worth!

It has been a while since the space hulk theme has been exercised.

“If”, in fact ;P
It also reminds me of the Event Horizon, for some odd reason. Let’s see if this one came back from hell as well…

I feel like I'm missing something in the last panel. Nifty ship though.

And boldly using a Star-shift drive, not a Star-slip. I do like the virtual object criterion.
Vanderbeam finally gets the better of Quine to his face! Hah!
Kris. … I was just rereading the archives, and i reread this. .. http://starslip.com/2009/12/25/out-of-seasons-gre…
i'm hoping we'll get to see the end of this loose end? maybe? please?
well it's not a loose end. it's a lingering story thread
"One million ghosts" is such a Straubian concern. Keep 'em coming!
read the writing on the wall as "Airlock It!", as if the ship was giving them suggestions on the solution to their problem
I have an even better idea: Only sent Quinn.
Or even better: don’t board the ship at all?
Man, which part of “don’t go abort derelict vessels that you don’t know where they’ve been” do these people not understand.
but it's literally their job.
Yup, just put a red shirt on him and send him in first.
Ablative.
heh heh.
So in this context what is a "seed ship"? Has this been mentioned before and I just forgot it?
Canamarexican Alliance. XD

Vanderbeam's response makes me happy.
I wonder how long people keep in cold hibernation.
And when they do finally go bad, do they just go dead, or do they go horrible monster?
depends on which kris is thinking about when he writes it in.
Aw crap, when did the power go out?
Interstellar mummies is my new band name. The band name is awesome. We are not.
Wait…is that the Venge?
http://starslip.com/2007/01/26/starslip-number-44…
I don't remember enough timeline details to know if that makes sense!
nice call.
How big of a box of baking soda do you need for that much cold storage?
Hmmmm…. had spotted it but had not made that connection Bobulus…… good memory association even if wrong….. always good to see a little subtle mystery in a strip…. keeps you on edge for the next…..
I love how Jinx's helmet it not actually attached to his suit, a la the space suits in the Star Trek pilot episode.

Good call Bobulus, but…who just died?!?!?
Hopefully Quine. So, you know, no one important
it has to be quine, or i'm calling the sci-fi webcomics complaint hotline.
Bonus Points to Bobulus!
Was that Memnon?
Awesome to see the Venge again!
Oh no! Quine! Probably!
I wonder why Cutter didn't go for the utterly obvious "re-venge","a-venge" or "venge-ance" quip. Maybe he has standards (unlike me)
Nice! The Venge! They were definitely underutilized in their first appearance, they're an awesome alien design.
Those bastards! They Killed Kenn–er, Quine!
Okay, seriously, this is awesome.
Sh!t just got real…
